Lieber, Rochelle (1981)

Abstract

Develops one of the classical models of lexicalist morphology. Lieber argues against the analysis of conversion by zero affixation (Allen 1978, Kiparsky 1982) on the basis of verb-to-noun conversion data from German where a zero-affixation analysis would counterfactually imply that all derived nouns belong to the same inflectional class. See also Lieber (1992) for related arguments.
