Network Core Mechanisms of Exponence

Keine, Stefan and Hein, Johannes (2010)

Abstract

In the system of Keine & Hein a marker M can be systematically restricted to occur after specific other markers M1 ... Mn (or more generally after specific insertion sequences of other markers). This may have the effect that M appears to express (entirely or partially) the same features as M1...Mn since M appears in the same (or a subset of the same contexts) as its "predecessor" markers. Note that this is subtly different from the secondary exponence system of Noyer (1992), where not the previous insertion of other markers by itself may condition further insertion (also resulting in apparent extended exponence) , but only the features which are marked by these.
