Network Core Mechanisms of Exponence

Hayes, Bruce and Abad, May (1989)

Abstract

This article addresses a couple of points which remain persistent issues for reduplication. First, it discusses more than one reduplication process, with different target shapes. How to match a particular shape with a particular morpheme is not obvious in OT approaches to reduplication. (See Downing 2006; Urbanczyk 1996, 2006.) Further, it discusses non-identity effects between the reduplicative morpheme and the Base which are motivated by the prosody of the reduplicative morpheme and the phonotactics of the language in general.
