Abstract

This paper deals with apparent infixation effects in Tagalog, Chamorro and Toba Batak. It is argued that a rule of onset metathesis is active in those languages rather than a process of infixation. This paper therefore argues for a rule-based alternative to the OT approach to infixation (esp. Prince & Smolensky's (1993) account of Tagalog).
