Network Core Mechanisms of Exponence

Abstract

A persistent problem in reduplication is the relation of the reduplicative morpheme to its Base. This article discusses the infixing and exfixing placement of reduplicative morphemes found with vowel-initial morphological Bases in Bantu languages and in Chumash. The OT analysis proposes that in both exfixing and infixing, the reduplicative morpheme takes a syllabically well-formed prosodic constituent, rather than a morphological constituent, as its Base.
