Abstract

The paper argues that cases of non-optimizing phonological suppletion (Paster 2005, 2006, Bye 2006) can be captured if the standard OT-approach of selection by markedness constraints (Kager 1996) is augmented by arbitrary morphological preferences for specific allomorphs.
