Abstract

(= Surrey 10) The paradigm of the German pronominal adjective dieser is analyzed in terms of transformational rules manipulating the ± values of features (such as Oblique and Governed). Case forms are derived by the application of ordered rules, from more to less specific, with syncretism resulting from underspecification within the domain of a given rule. It is suggested that the order of rules reflects the relative markedness of the features they refer to.
