Abstract

The paper argues that many instances of syncretism and morphological polarity ("diagonal syncretism") which cover apparently arbitrary combinations of morphosyntactic features can be captured in a DM-style morphology if vocabulary items are allowed to include variables for nodes in a feature geometry.
