Network Core Mechanisms of Exponence

Baerman, Matthew (2010)

Abstract

This paper discusses different empirical cases for which it is argued that paradigmatic gaps are triggered by the fact that use of the gapped form would result in homophony to other forms. However it is stressed that there is no obvious way to predict when and where homophony avoidanc e will lead to gaps.
