Network Core Mechanisms of Exponence

Aronoff, Mark (1988)

Abstract

This article accounts for exfixing reduplication like that found in KiHehe (Odden & Odden 1985), where the reduplicative morpheme sometimes occurs adjacent to the Stem (head) and sometimes occurs before a prefix which has syllabified with the Stem. The proposal is that morphemes can subcategorize to affix directly to the head of the construction, potentially lead to mismatches between the linear and derivational order of the morpheme.
