Network Core Mechanisms of Exponence

Anderson, Stephen (2001)

Abstract

The article deals with the theoretical issue of multiple exponence, which is most relevant for the topic of doubling in so far as featural specifications of inflectional affixes are concerned – irrespective of whether these affixes are phonologically similar or not. The verbal inflection of, among others, the Kiranti languages is regarded as displaying “genuine multiple exponence”, which is analyzed as a paradigm case for a realizational perspective on morphology, as opposed to a morpheme-based or an incremental theory of inflection.
